Dynamic Wrinkles
Facial expressions are important for social interactions. Through facial expressions, people can convey surprise, joy and anger to each other without saying a word. However when you frown, squint or smile, the underlying facial muscles causes the skin to bunch up causing the formation of dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles don't only make you look older than you really are, they can make you look tired or annoyed even when you're not. These can be potentially resolved by Botox injections. Let us understand more here.
Understanding Botulinum Toxin A (Botox)
The appearance of dynamic wrinkles can be reduced by the injection of Botulinum toxin A such as Dysport into the facial muscles.
Many people don't know that Botulinum toxin has many other uses before it was approved for aesthetic usage. Botulinum toxin A was used to treat migraines, muscle spasticity among other indications.
In aesthetics medicine, Botulinum toxin such as Dysport is typically injected in the glabellar area in between the eyebrows which can form lines when you frown or when you squint.
It can also be injected on the outside of our eyes known as the crow feet area, which form lines when you smile. This part reduces the formation of facial wrinkles by blocking or reducing the release of neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, which is required for the contraction of facial muscles. Without acetylcholine, the ability of the muscle to contract is reduced or entirely prevented. This in turn stops the attached overlying skin from bunching reducing the formation of wrinkles
Will it make your face look frozen?
There are many factors that determine the outcome of your treatment. They include the volume and concentration of the toxin, the target muscle it is injected into and its ability to diffuse in the muscle. If you completely paralyze your facial muscles with Botulinum toxin A, you can appear frozen however if the appropriate amount of Dysport is injected into your facial muscles by a qualified physician, it will not hinder your ability to express emotions or give you a frozen look.
How long can it last?
The results may vary from individual to individual. We expect to see the results kick in within two to three days. Some patients may even see results as soon as 24 hours after the treatment. With each treatment of Dysport, we expect the results to be maintained for up to five months and with each subsequent treatment we expect the effectiveness to be the same.
